I do heads-on art-making, hands-on scholarship.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Thesis and Distinction from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020. I wrote my thesis on the cli-fi (climate fiction) of speculative design and the film Wandering Earth.
I produce projects with archival collections by engaging transnational art ecologies, and have been working with Joseph Grigely on the Hans Ulrich Obrist Publication Archive for the past five years. I also think a lot about fiction’s interplay with reality, the ethics and aesthetics of representation, and how bodies are treated as literal and metaphor.
I am currently researching the social and technocratic dimensions of air. My course, Post-Carbon Design: Designing for the Air, is planned for the fall semester in the China Central Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Design.
My middle name is Be-Yun, as in 王碧雲.
